Mirrored Sunglasses are a popular choice among sports enthusiasts and law enforcement officers. One reason for this is the barrier to eye contact that the mirrored lenses provide. Poker players also enjoy wearing mirrored sunglasses, not only to protect against any strong lighting, but also to hide any eye "tells" or poker face, they may make during play of poker hands.

Sunglasses in general provide protection from the sunlight, and have many medical uses, such as in cases where a person may be light sensitive. Made popular by movie stars in the early 1900's, mirrored sunglasses were used to hide any redness of eyes that occurred during filming under very strong spotlights that were used.

Mirrored Sunglasses

A thin coating is applied to the lens which reflects light and looks just like a regular mirror to the person looking at the wearer of the sunglasses. These coatings can be made in different colors, like blue, or silver, for styling or fashion reasons. Mirrors do not get as hot in sunlight because they reflect the sunlight and heat.

Most mirrored sunglasses are set in either metal frames or wrap around frames. The plastic wrap frames can add color or pattern to the sunglasses for a fashion statement. Wrap around mirrored sunglasses are very popular with the extreme sports crowd. The mirror style sunglasses have been featured extensively in certain movies, like The Matrix and some police dramas like Highway Patrol. This has added to their popularity.
