You're Never Old-Fashioned with Vintage Sunglasses!

Not like some other fashion rends, sunglasses never went out of popularity. Sure, one style was replaced by another but they’re still sunglasses right? They have the power to transcend time and the multitudes of fashion trends that have come ever since the creation of the first pair of specs. Perhaps we can attribute this to the flexibility of sunglasses – be it a weekend out at the beach, a long drive or even a Sunday barbecue – we need to have a pair of sunglasses for every occasion. It has formed part of every fashion statement; even celebrities agree to it! Besides, have you ever seen a photograph of the Olsen twins without their ever-handy vintage sunglasses? And it’s not like celebrities can hide from the paparazzi without sunglasses, right? As more and more people avail of their own pairs, the increase of sales for sunglasses sky-rocket as well. Of course celebrities have a lot to do with it; after all, what they wear; the rest of the world wants to wear. If you see Justin Bieber sport a new pair of sunglasses, then you’re sure to find the rest of the world (or at least, the teenagers) line up to get their own pair the following day. Who can blame them? We like to look good.

If you do a little reminiscing, you’ll be surprised about the sunglasses’ humble beginnings. Even in pre-historic times, our ancestors knew about the harm the sun’s rays can bring – this is why they made the first pair of specs using ivory. Other materials were also used including emeralds and smoky quartz which had no protective powers but could reduce glare. Tinted lenses for sunglasses first appeared in the 1800’s, and by the time the 1900’s came, sunglasses became so widespread especially among movie stars. From then on, more and more styles have been created to cater to the fashion trends and needs of the customers.

As mentioned, vintage sunglasses are also a popular hit among the celebrities. Currently, we see a rise of old fashion trends once again being restored to their former glory. The same is true for vintage sunglasses – once famous in the 70’s and 80’s, they’re being brought back to the fashion scene by celebrities and fans alike. Vintage sunglasses are usually combined with more modern technologies to make them look sophisticated – their frames can come in either plastic or metal. Of course one kind of vintage sunglasses that never went out of style are the wayfarers – although they lost their charm in the 80’s, they once again hit the stores thanks to celebrities that popularized these vintage sunglasses.

Size does matter with over sized pairs, another kind of vintage sunglasses. Also known as Jackie O sunglasses, these are favorites of many stars including the Olsen twins and Paris Hilton. If you can’t find a pair suitable for you, there are a lot of online sellers who offer vintage sunglasses. One advantage of this is that you don’t have to get up from your chair to shop; rather, you can have your vintage sunglasses delivered to your doorstep in a matter of days. Don’t hesitate to be different and try out a pair of vintage sunglasses!
