Did you know that wayfarer sunglasses have been around since 1952?  They were really popular during the 50's and 60's.  In 1962 or 1963 Roy Orbison accidentally forgot his glasses on an airplane.  He was then forced to wear his prescription Ray-Ban Wayfarer prescription sunglasses and he really liked it.  Since he had a severe stage fright, wearing the sunglasses allowed him to somewhat hide from some of the attention.  With him wearing the wayfarers, their popularity soared. 

During the 70's wayfarers were dying out.  Sales were really bad and nobody was wearing them.  Then the 80's hit.  It seemed as though everybody was wearing wayfarers again.  Celebrities like Michael Jackson, Corey Feldman, and Madonna were seen wearing them everywhere.  They were being used in movies like The Blues Brothers and Risky Business.  There was even songs written about them and they were being used in music videos like "I Wear My Sunglasses At Night".
